Have We Met?

Hi, I'm Erin

I am an ophthalmologist, coach and leader with a passion for seeing others succeed. As an executive coach and leader I

Over the years I have worked with fellow physicians who want to achieve more. Often this is a transition point or career shift.

I was part of developing the LEAD 2.0 physician leadership curriculum for medical educators.

I worked to develop and teach a curriculum based on performance psychology for surgeons that results in faster skill aquistion and better responses in times of stress or complications.

I co-founded a mentorship and support group for women surgeons while in the military that is still going strong.

I love hearing from you when you have a great success or after a complication in that moment when you can feel like nothing. We have all been there.

Past Clients' Love

Your presence in the OR was ideal. They're to help and watching closely enough to provide helpful and timely tips to allow us to avoid problems. Also, your teaching style of having learners pause and figure out how to better address the issue at hand instead of just telling us what to do is very helpful and conducive to good learning.

~ Alexandra Schulte

I just wanted to say a big thank you for all that you did for us in the OR while in Panama. I appreciate your enthusiasm for teaching, your trust in our surgical skills to attempt such humbling cases and your badass female energy. To see a female surgeon leading such a calm and competent OR was so inspiring. I certainly have a lot to learn still but a lot of my take always from this trip were direct impressions from OR 5 and your leadership. Thank you again! Hope we stay in touch!

The Drive Behind PPL's Mission

At the Physician Performance Lab (PPL), our purpose is deeply rooted in understanding the unique challenges that physicians face, especially in the crucial transition years of their practice. We recognize that the journey from medical school to seasoned professional is fraught with obstacles such as a lack of experience, imposter syndrome, and a scarcity of mentorship. It is also filled with opportunities and options. Coaching can support high performers as they navigate these decision points and deal with difficult situations in their personal and professional lives.

For procedural specialists, possessing a mental and physical skill set is crucial, yet these skills are perishable. While routine cases may not induce significant stress, complications and rare situations can pose substantial challenges, even for seasoned physicians when encountered infrequently.

The way physicians navigate the stressors of their high-responsibility calling plays a pivotal role in determining their overall well-being, relationships, and happiness. The saying "if you cut, you cry" encapsulates the emotional toll that complications can take on physicians. This sentiment holds true regardless of whether one is in their first year or their twentieth; a complication can still evoke questioning about the chosen path in medicine.

In facing these challenges, many physicians adopt maladaptive coping mechanisms, putting their licensure, professional reputation, and personal life at risk. Instances of burnout, malpractice, divorce, and interpersonal conflicts at work are unfortunately not uncommon outcomes.

At PPL, we believe in empowering physicians to overcome these challenges. We recognize that great physicians, akin to exceptional athletes and performers, distinguish themselves through a winning mindset, resilience, tenacity, and unwavering composure. Through our courses and coaching, we aim to impart not just medical expertise but also the psychological tools necessary to thrive in the demanding field of medicine.

Our mission is not only to address these challenges but also to prevent them. We want physicians to embrace their roles with confidence, excellence, and efficiency. By providing evidence-based courses and personalized coaching, we equip our participants with the skills and mindset needed to navigate the complexities of their profession, preventing burnout, enhancing resilience, and fostering a sense of accomplishment.
